Description Of The Area

Inverin/Indreabhán, is a coastal Gaeltacht village located between Spiddal and Costelloe. It has maintained its strong Irish speaking culture throughout its expansion into a commuter belt for Galway City. The actual village of Inverin is the area between Baile na hAbhann and na Minna and is less than half an hour from Galway City.
Connemara Regional Airport is located at Inverin with flights that service the Aran Islands daily. The flight takes a short 10 minutes and is a must do for any visitor to the area. With Inis Mór being the largest of the three islands, there is lots to see and do here including an excellent visitors centre Ionad Arainn, St Enda’s church and of course Dun Aengus – the great stone fortress, perched on a 300 foot cliff.
With its many beaches, you can enjoy a day’s swimming or watersports with Trá Mhór Choill Rua being a popular choice of many. During the summer months, like many other Gaeltacht locations, Inverin becomes a hub of activity with many students attending Irish Language Summer College here with two of the largest colleges located in Inverin – Coláiste Lurgan and Coláiste Uí Chadhain.
